The Development of P–20 Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) To Advance Education Research and Policy
In February 2012, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) released Version 2 of the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS). In this session, Jack Buckley, NCES Commissioner (U.S. Department of Education) presented the new standards and discussed how the CEDS project has been structured to develop a voluntary collaborative set of standards across stakeholder groups to support the development of consistent and comparable data through all education levels and sectors. A panel of education research experts examined the CEDS, considered the issues and challenges involved in adoption of such standards, and specifically addresses and illustrated how such standards can drive the advancement of scientific knowledge and of sound public policy related to education.
