May 2012

The National Science Foundation has funded a one-week summer workshop to expand the number of young scholars who are familiar with the Longitudinal Study of American Youth (LSAY) data set and who can use it in conjunction with other studies and program funded by NSF’s Education and Human Resources (EHR) Directorate. Applications to participate are due by June 1.

The workshop will be held at the Institute for Social Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from July 23 through 28, and a $2,000 stipend will be provided to offset travel and lodging costs. The workshop is limited to 20 participants, and priority will be given to applicants who are associated with a currently funded EHR project.

The LSAY has been following 5,000 young adults since 1987, and the resulting 25-year longitudinal record offers numerous research opportunities. The Analysis of LSAY Data Workshop is designed to facilitate the use of the data set by education and social science scholars who are unfamiliar with this data set or with very large data sets generally. The workshop will provide an introduction to the nature and structure of the LSAY longitudinal record, the scales and summary variables available within the data set, and the statistical procedures needed to analyze it.

Visit the workshop webpage for more details and for application instructions. Address questions to LSAY director Jon D. Miller (800.984.5271).
