AERA Open, AERA’s new open access, online peer-reviewed journal, will accept manuscripts starting in October, with an editorial team poised to provide rapid review and dissemination. The journal’s inaugural editors are Mark Warschauer, Greg J. Duncan, and Jacquelynne Eccles. All at the University of California, Irvine, they are known for the breadth of their expertise nationally and internationally.
AERA Open aims to advance knowledge through empirical and theoretical study across arenas of inquiry related to education and learning. As set forth in its mission statement, AERA Open will serve as a venue for innovation, novel inquiry and ideas, interdisciplinary bridge building, and research that fosters the connection of research to practice.
AERA Executive Director Felice Levine J. emphasizes that “by design, AERA Open aims to be open in every way possible—through the published works themselves, use of innovative formats for making accessible supplemental materials, and data access and archiving related to published articles. Reflecting’s AERA longstanding commitment to building cumulative knowledge, AERA Open also encourages submission of replication studies.”
Ten associate editors have recently been named to make AERA Open’s vision a reality:
“Because of the wide scope of the journal, we have sought a group of associate editors who collectively have broad areas of expertise,” said Warschauer. “They include scholars who focus on early education, adolescents, and adults, as well as scholars with expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. They are notable for their interest in transcending silos and crossing boundaries. This outstanding group is key to launching this new effort.”
