The Teachers' Work/Teacher Unions SIG of the American Educational Research Association is a group of international academics and teacher unionists with an interest in issues pertaining to the organization of teachers' work. We describe and theorize teachers' workplace activism; analyze and share strategies used by teachers' federations/societies/associations/unions as they respond to educational policy at the federal, state, and provincial level, and critically explore historical and political tensions within teachers' organizations, districts, schools, and classrooms in relation to teachers' work. We have traditionally focussed on the K-12 education system but welcome examination of working conditions and organized activism in higher education.
