Dear SIG Members,
I am extremely excited to serve as the new Chair of the Research Focus on Education and Sport SIG for AERA.
As I begin my term, I want to first thank our former Chair, Dr. Derek Van Rheenen, who has helped the SIG to reach record numbers. Our budget and membership are strong and I hope to continue in his strong legacy, helping to advance and apply research at the nexus of education and sport.
As your new Chair, I want to encourage collaboration among scholars and practitioners in the field. This will best be accomplished by creating an open and consistent forum for conversations, both formal and informal, related to research on education and sport.
While this official website will remain relatively static, the SIG will continue to post information to our Wordpress website. I encourage all members and prospective members to visit this site:
Our multi-disciplinary membership provides a significant strength, particularly if we continue to hear others' perspectives and learn from one another.
I would also like to take a moment to thank Dr. Molly Ott (Program Chair) for her tireless efforts and to welcome Dr. Lisa Rubin who begins her three-year term as the Treasurer/Secretary.
Ultimately, we hope to continue to support an inclusive and welcoming SIG atmosphere as a collaborative and caring group of scholars and practitioners at the intersections of education and sport.
I am honored to serve as the Chair of the Research Focus on Education and Sport Special Interest Group (SIG) within the American Educational Research Association and look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Kristina M. Navarro, Ph.D., CSCS
