The International Studies SIG is pleased to offer the following awards:

The Outstanding Study of the Year Award
The SIG, on the occasion of its annual meeting, each year presents an AERA sanctioned award to the author(s) of an outstanding international study of education that was published in the previous year. This award is provided to acknowledge excellence in international studies of education and to encourage those engaged in such studies to participate in the missions of the SIG. The award will consist of a small stipend for travel to the annual meeting and recognition in AERA through the SIG.

The Award Committee selects the "Outstanding Study" from the nominations of the membership and taking into account the following considerations:

  • The study should have an international orientation.
  • The study should have a clear theoretical framework and contribute epistemological and/or empirical knowledge.
  • The study may be in the form of a published article, paper in a conference proceeding, section of a book, short monograph, or similar publication.

SIG members are encouraged to nominate studies for review by the Awards Committee no later than September 15th of the year preceding the award. Please send your nominations to the Awards Committee Chair: Dr. James Reed Campbell at [email protected].

Lifetime Achievement Award
The SIG is proud to present "Lifetime Achievement Awards" to its members who have consistently demonstrated outstanding participation with AERA's International Studies. This award is provided to acknowledge the SIG's heartfelt gratitude for the recipient's years of dedication to AERA's International Studies. The 2006 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award was Professor Allen Menlo.

The SIG is also pleased to present "Outstanding Service Awards" to those IS Members who continually give numerable hours in time and energy to keep International Studies competitive, vibrant, and up-to-date.
