AERA 2016 Election - Voting Opens February 10
On February 10, AERA will open the 2016 election with voting conducted by electronic ballot. Voting members will receive a personalized link by e-mail to access their ballot.

Darling-Hammond, Simmons Announced as Annual Meeting Speakers
AERA President Jeannie Oakes has announced Linda Darling-Hammond and Warren Simmons as major speakers at the 2016 Annual Meeting. 
AERA Announces Three New, Revised Awards Categories – Deadline for Nominations: March 1
AERA Council has approved two new awards categories for 2016—Outstanding Public Communication of Education Research and Excellence in Media Reporting on Education Research—as well as a revised category—Exemplary Contributions to Practice-Engaged Research, formerly called the Relating Research to Practice Award.

AERA, ICPSR, and COSSA Provide Comments on Revisions to Common Rule
On January 6, AERA, ICPSR, and COSSA submitted joint comments on proposed revisions to regulations governing human subjects protections in research, often referred to as the Common Rule.


AERA Provides Comments on Education Department Implementation of ESSA
On January 21, AERA submitted comments in response to a request for information from the U.S. Department of Education for advice and recommendations on the implementation and operation of programs under the recently enacted Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Budget and Legislative Outlook of Interest to Education Research
While the ink is still drying on the 2016 appropriations agreement signed by President Barack Obama in late December, Congress has already turned its attention to the 2017 fiscal year.

NIH Funding Opportunities Available for Research on Education and Health Linkages
On January 12, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) posted three Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) regarding grants for researchers to explore linkages between education and health.
