Deborah Loewenberg Ball Voted AERA President-Elect
Deborah Loewenberg Ball, the William H. Payne Collegiate Professor in education and an Arthur F. Thurnau professor at the University of Michigan, has been voted president-elect of AERA. 
Key Members Elected to AERA Council
Along with voting in Deborah Loewenberg Ball as AERA president-elect, AERA members selected several new AERA Council representatives.
 
Jill Biden to Speak at AERA Annual Meeting
U.S. Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden will address a session of the AERA Annual Meeting on April 11 in Washington, D.C. The title of her address is "Operation Educate the Educators: Recognizing and Supporting Military-Connected Students Through University-based Research, Community Partnerships, and Teacher Education Programs."
 
Donna Shalala to Moderate Centennial Forum with Major Headliners
Donna Shalala will moderate the centerpiece of the opening plenary session, which will be a Town Hall discussion that takes a critical look at the current “State of the Field” for education research – taking stock of its complex history and imagining its future.
AERA Announces 2016 Award Winners in Education Research
AERA announced the winners of fourteen of its fifteen 2016 awards for excellence in education research. AERA will honor the recipients for their outstanding scholarship and service at the fourth annual Awards Luncheon, April 10, at the AERA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The fifth edition of the Handbook of Research on Teaching, AERA’s essential resource for scholars and students dedicated to the study of teaching and learning, will be released at the 2016 Annual Meeting.

March Issue of Educational Researcher Celebrates AERA Centennial
“A Living Lens: AERA Past Presidents Reflect on 100 Years of Education Research” appears in the March edition (vol. 45, no. 2) of the journal and includes the contributions of 14 AERA past presidents.

AERA Urges Strong FY 2017 Funding for Agencies Supporting Education Research 
Even with a two-year budget agreement in place, the chances that appropriations bills for the 2017 fiscal year will be passed on a normal schedule are low.
House Education Committee Holds Hearing on Education Research and Privacy Protections
On March 22 the House Education and Workforce Committee held a hearing on “Strengthening Education Research and Privacy Protections to Better Serve Students” to examine federal policies affecting education research and student privacy.
 
COSSA Holds 2016 Annual Meeting and Advocacy Day
The Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA) held its 2016 Annual Meeting and Social and Behavioral Science Advocacy Day on March 15 and 16, bringing together more than 100 members of the social and behavioral science community for a day of discussion on federal issues impacting social and behavioral science research.
NCSER Grantees Present at Friends of IES Hill Briefing
On March 4, the Friends of IES, of which AERA is a founding member, held a well-attended congressional briefing, “Transitioning to Adult Productivity: Supporting Secondary Students with Disabilities in Successful Movement to College and Career.”
